Our Story

The Heart of Africa programme was launched in July 2006. In partnership with Jacob Fruitfield, Barry’sTea & Bewley’s the brand was created by Traidlinks to import and distribute premium, quality products from Africa to Irish consumers.

Working with our African suppliers to Heart of Africa, our Irish partners have shared skills and support, to create a world standard array of local produce, and providing a route to International consumers for premium African food products.  The Heart of Africa range is sold in selected major retail supermarkets thoughout Ireland.

All our products in the Heart of Africa range are ethically sourced - meaning that the companies we work with comply within the guidlines of the UN Global compact (http://www.unglobalcompact.org) which focuses on Human Rights, good labour, health & safety, governance and environmental practices.

Africa is a continent abundant in fresh, natural product ranging from tea leaves and coffee beans to fresh fruit and tree nuts.  Heart of Africa's focus for sourcing products for the range is that they are natural with minimal processing.

The Heart of Africa programme provides an opportunity to empower the people of Africa to help themselves, to fight poverty, to harness the power of trade for sustainable growth, and to enable Traidlinks to support further business development in Africa.

Further benefits realized through Heart of Africa include increases in local employment and in local supply chain demands, with a focus on creating local, accessible demand at primary end of the chain, i.e. local farmers who are the key source for providing raw products to our African companies.
